ABC Photograph Book

I love this ABC art. Alphabet Photography

I decided that it would be a lot of fun to make my own and turn it into a little alphabet book for my 23 month old son Benjamin. (You can see all of the photos HERE) I think the theory is to find and take pictures of things that look like each letter. However, I wanted to make sure that the letters were obvious enough for my son to be able to recognize them and I wanted to only use objects from around the house, most of which he would recognize. So for some of the letters I did things like arrange blueberries on a plate or crayons on the table. I also tried to not repeat any subjects.

(If you have older kids this could be a fun project to do together. I really enjoyed searching around the house for the different letters and it forces you to think about things from a new perspective. It is a great creative exercise.)

Once I had taken all of the pictures, I cropped them all to the same 4x6 size and edited some of them slightly (like increasing the contrast) to make the letters a little more pronounced.

Of course you could print pictures, frame them, and then hang them in the nursery. I love letter/name art.

I ended out finding a lot of things outside.

Since Benjamin (my 23 month old son) loves talking about his ABC's right now and also loves books, I printed these off and put them into a 4x6 photo book. I really love this book. Benjamin loves it too. It helps him learn his alphabet, talk about things he knows from around the house, and most importantly, it helps him to think about things creatively from a different perspective and use a little imagination.

(He bumped his head a couple days ago which is why his forehead is still a little bruised and swollen. The bruise even spread a little bit to his eye, poor guy.)

I took this video when he woke up from nap and I first gave him the book. I was holding Lyla and the video camera so it was difficult to help show him the pages. I look forward to going through this book again together when I can help him see the letters on each page. I was actually surprised by how easily he saw and recognized most of the letters. Sometimes he wanted to talk more about the objects in the pictures though.

I also made a button for my blog. I'm not sure how well it works as a button, but I like how it looks.

Check out all of my ABC photos HERE.
