Felt Photo Frame Magnets and Felt Flower Magnets

August 5, 2011 by Rachel 20 Comments

Felt picture frame fridge magnets (and felt flower fridge magnets)
Supplies: Different colors of felt, scissors, glue gun, buttons, needle and thread, plastic, pictures, round magnets
First, cut out two identical rectangles of fabric about 2 inches wide and 3 inches long (like a wallet size photograph).

Cut a window in one of the pieces of felt. Cut out a piece of plastic that is a little bit smaller than the rectangle, but a little bit larger than the window. I just used plastic packaging from a toy.

Using a hot glue gun, glue the plastic rectangle to the inside of the window. Be careful to keep the glue away from the center of the plastic.

Now sew the two felt rectangles together, making sure that the plastic is on the inside. Leave the top open so that you can put pictures inside. However still sew the front piece at the top for consistency.

There are so many different fun ways that you could decorate these frames. I made some of these little felt roses in different sizes. Here is the tutorial for the flowers.

Now to make this purple flower, cut out 5 small petals. I also covered a few buttons in a thin fabric, but I didn’t end out using them with these frames.

Glue the ends of the petals together by pinching them into the shape shown below and adding glue in all 3 slots. Here is another post with more felt flower tutorials.

Now decorate the frames. Glue on leaves, flowers, buttons, etc etc…

Insert the pictures. I chose pictures that would match the frames (Lyla in a yellow shirt to match the yellow flowers, and Lyla in a purple shirt to match the purple flower). You could stop here, add ribbons to the top, and hang these pictures on the wall, a mantle, in your car, at your desk, or even on a Christmas tree.

I decided to turn the frames and a handful of felt roses into fridge magnets. They turned out very cute and are the perfect size for a fridge magnet.

You can put them on a filing cabinet or dry erase board. I would have loved these felt flower magnets on the dry erase board on the door of my college dorm room.

This is such a great and cute idea! I have some plain hard plastic refriderator frames that I might just glue the felt onto directly to dress them up a little!

I love how your fridge magnets became personalized and transformed into cute picture frames. Perhaps you can make fruit-shaped ones like strawberries or grapes.
