Camera Coats Review and Giveaway

June 13, 2012 by Rachel 21 Comments

I love being organized. I hate carrying things. I have two toddlers. Ouch.

Between diaper bags, my purse, my camera, my phone, my keys, and my kids, I am always ALWAYS carrying something. It’s exhausting.

Taking good pictures is important to me. I love documenting my kids’ lives, and I want to have my good camera with me everywhere we go. (P.S. I have the Canon EOS Rebel T2i
and it is amazing. It’s great for intermediate photographers like me, but it is also perfect for beginners too.)

Recently, I had gotten so tired of carrying 3 bags (purse, camera bag, diaper bag) with me everywhere I went, that I started putting my wallet, phone, and keys in my camera bag. It sort of worked, but I kept worrying that my keys would scratch the screen of my camera.

So, when I stumbled across these Camera Coats online, I immediately thought “GENIUS!”

A Camera Coat is a very small, padded case that goes over your camera and protects it from all sorts of things. (Plus they are SO cute!).

It closes with just a little strip of velcro and it also has a little buckle on the side that you clip around your camera strap so the coat stays with you when you take your camera out to take pictures. I was a little worried that the hanging coat would get in the way, but it never did. There are also three little pockets for your lens cover, filters, or phone. It is so convenient and easy to use (and did I mention CUTE?).

What’s also great about Camera Coats is that they are so thin and lightweight, it’s like having a camera case without having to carry a camera case. Now, what I have started doing is tossing my camera (of course sporting its gray and white chic chevron coat) into my purse. It’s totally protected, and it fits perfectly. There is even room for an emergency pack of baby wipes too.

Here are a couple of my favorites. They even make a few manly versions which would be great for father’s day and a few waterproof coats for a little extra protection.

1. Nautical Chevron Cotton Coat
2. Happy Days (Waterproof)
3. Sweet Mustard Flowerettes
4. May Flowers (Waterproof)

Ok, so to recap, Camera Coats are genius, adorable, practical, well-designed, well-made, and oh-so useful. But on top of this, the Camera Coats company is really awesome too. (Read the whole story here) Emily, just a creative mom like a lot of us, decided to make a little case to protect her camera so she could take it with her on an airplane and ditch her camera bag. Now she has designed a whole fantastic line of Camera Coats, and has a patent pending on the design. Also, Camera Coats are made from start to finish here in the U.S.A. and are packed and shipped by a community organization of local neighbors with disabilities.

So you love Camera Coats but you’re not ready to part with your camera case? You can easily use them both. Your camera will have a little flair, plus your screen will be protected from the other things floating around in your bag.

That's such a great idea! I always toss my Nikon into my purse, but having a little added protection would make me feel better about doing so.
