How to Print in White with Your Silhouette

August 25, 2013 by Rachel 2 Comments

I’m so happy to be sharing another Silhouette project and promotion with you today. Have you ever wanted to print something in white? Of course that isn’t something your printer can do. You can create this look with the Silhouette Sketch Pens.

The Silhouette Sketch Pens are just little pens that you can use in place of your blade in your Silhouette machine. They can create text, draw doodles, or sketch things out for you. Most of these things you can do with a printer, but it creates a unique hand drawn look, and even embosses the paper where it draws.

You can visit the Silhouette Store and use the code ACROSS to get these special bundle deals.
(1)    CAMEO plus sketch pen starter pack, metallic and glitter collection packs, plus a $25 gift card and a penholder for $269.99 ($88.96 off the retail price)
(2)    Portrait plus sketch pen starter pack, metallic and glitter collection packs, plus a $25 gift card and a penholder for $129.99 ($108.96 off the retail price)
(3)    Sketch pen starter pack, metallic and glitter collection packs, plus a penholder for $19.99 ($13.97 off the retail price)
The other thing that is great about these sketch pens, is that they are useful for printing text onto something that you want to cut out with your Silhouette. It is possible (but difficult) to print words on your printer, then cut out around them with your Silhouette. It’s just too difficult to get the spacing right, and things always end up off centered. I used the blade then pens to cut out a gift box, and label it.
How to cut and sketch together

1. First create the final look you want. I used this gift box pattern, and then added the text Lyla on the front, exactly where I wanted the text to be.

2. Now you can click on the text, and delete it. Then load your cardstock, make sure your blade is in and you have the proper settings, and then send to your Silhouette.

3. Do not unload the cutting mat! Click undo, so that your screen shows the text and box again, then click on the box and delete it, so that you are just left with the text. Load your Silhouette with a sketch pen (I used white), make sure you are on the right Sketch Pen settings, and then send to your Silhouette.

4. Take out your paper. The white did not show up nearly as white as I wanted, but it created a wonderful embossed outline of the lettering. I decided to use a white paint pen to make a more dramatic white text. (It was really easy to fill in the letters, because of the large indentations the sketch pens created.)

5. Let it dry, and assemble. Add a ribbon or other embellishments.

Don’t forget: Through August 29, you can visit the Silhouette Store and get great bundle deals with huge discounts using the code ACROSS.

What a great use for the Silhouette sketch pens! I'm definitely going to try this technique. Thanks for the creative idea, Rachel!
