DIY Candy Confetti

I’m not always one to go all out for parties. I can totally see the appeal and how it’s a fun creative outlet for some people, but generally, I like to have just a few handmade touches and colorful details. And July 4th is an especially fun holiday for my family because it’s my mom’s birthday. We’ve always had big red white and blue celebrations, and it’s extra special to get to celebrate two things. When I was a kid, my mom even tried to convince us that all of the fireworks were for her.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I love candy. It’s just so bright and colorful, and I especially love it when party decor can serve two purposes. When I saw the fun summer Twizzlers display at Walmart, I knew that colorful candy confetti would be a perfect addition to our little patriotic party.

What you need:
1. Twizzlers
2. Blue Twizzlers (found in rainbow bag)
3. Scissors

What you do:
1. Start by cleaning a pair of scissors. I tried cutting them up on a cutting board with a knife, but it was hard. Cutting them with scissors was so easy, and since Twizzlers aren’t really sticky, it didn’t leave almost any residue on my scissors afterwards.
2. Cut small pieces of Twizzlers and gather them in a bowl.
3. Scatter around the center of your table, or anywhere else to use as decor… plus people can snack on the delicious little bites as well!

I also ended up adding some blue Twizzlers as straws in our berry lemonades. (Thanks Natasha for the fun idea!)

And the Red White and Blue Twizzlers Pull N Peel are also perfect for Forth of July celebrations. (Plus they are really especially delicious) I ended out playing around with them and braiding them into a little candy bracelet. It actually worked surprisingly well, and turned out pretty cute. First get four strands (I used red, red, white, blue). Squish together the tops of all four of them. Start braiding them together fishtail braid style (here is a bracelet tutorial I shared that used this method). When you reach the end, squish the ends together until they are secure. Then wrap it around your wrist and squish the top and bottom ends together. You can stretch the braided piece to make it a little longer. I wasn’t sure how well this would hold, but I ended out wearing mine most of the day without even thinking about it. This would also be such a fun craft to do with or make for your kids!

What about you? Do you have any special July 4th traditions? What fun ideas do you have for crafting with Twizzlers?

Great! Idea! I may have to go buy some ASAP! My daughter will love the bracelet idea. She has been all about braiding and making jewelry lately.

For other holidays you can change the colors too:
    Easter – Yellow, blue, purple
    Halloween – Orange, purple, green
    Thanksgiving – Orange and yellow
    Christmas – Green and red
New Year – Use all the colors from the rainbow bag
