Creative Play with Bunchems

December 21, 2015 by Rachel Leave a Comment

I’m always looking for fun and creative toys that are open ended… you know, the ones that your kids will play with for hours. I’m so glad that we got to test out Bunchems, because they are so awesome, and I have had just as much fun as the kids playing with them. If you are a regular around here, you’re not surprised I started off by making a rainbow!

Bunchems RainbowBunchems are tiny plastic balls that stick together very easily almost like Velcro. There are so many different things you can create and build with Bunchems and so many different ways to play with them.

My 6 year old son Benjamin absolutely loves building things. He doesn’t always enjoy arts and crafts as much as some kids (like his 5 year old sister Lyla), but his creativity really comes alive with toys like this. He is also one who loves to follow the instructions and build things he sees on the box.

What surprised me a lot was how quickly Lyla took to Bunchems. Sometimes she doesn’t have the patience to slowly build something piece by piece, and she was able to create these fun little characters (completely 100% by herself) in about 5 minutes each. In case you were wondering, the purple guy is a bird with ears and a big yellow tail. The accessories that go with the Bunchems are also hilarious.

Now you may have seen posts and videos on Facebook about how Bunchems are getting stuck in little girl’s hair. Because of their sticky nature, Bunchems can and will get stuck in hair if you stick them there and wiggle around. (If this happens Bunchems does have a helpful video on how to remove them easily). However, all over the toys is clearly says to keep away from hair. If your daughter has especially long hair, you can also have her put it in a ponytail while she plays with them. Basically, you should know your own child, remind them not to put them in their hair, and supervise them more closely if you’re worried that they might put them in their hair. If you wouldn’t trust your child to make a simple craft with kids’ scissors and glue, then they might not be old enough for Bunchems… yet!

I also just love the bright colors of Bunchems! They’re also fun for playing with patterns and shapes. My kids are obsessed with them. And the fact that they stick together makes them super easy to clean up!
