Lines Across

Lets Make a Mess

Simple Yarn and Paperclip Bookmarks

July 14, 2011 by Rachel 2 Comments

I saw this idea for bookmarks using ribbons and colorful giant paperclips on Pinterest and I love it.

I thought it would be a great idea to make a similar bookmark but with yarn instead of ribbons and where the yarn acts as the bookmark instead of the paperclip. In theory it would be like the built-in ribbon bookmarks in Bibles and fancy books.

Since we are visiting my mother right now, I was able to find plenty of yarn and paperclips all over the house.

I wanted to make a bookmark that had lots of different strands or yarn so that I could mark multiple pages in a book. You could easily make a bookmark with any even number or strands. I did 6.

I cut 3 different long pieces of yarn, and folded them over. I left them long and uneven at the bottom at this point.

I then threaded the pieces of yarn through the small side of a small blue paperclip and tied a knot. You could definitely find a larger or more interesting paperclip.

I then attached the paperclip to the front of a book. I also then cut the bottoms of the strands of yarn to be a little longer than the book. You could also add beads to the bottoms of the strands of yarn.

I then used the different strands to mark different pages in the book.

Now I want to dig through more of my mother’s yarn and make other bookmarks with different color combinations. The entire project took about 5 minutes.

Somewhat Simple

This is so simple and SO clever. Now that we're reading my son some chapter books at night, we're finally in need of bookmarks. He'd have LOADS of fun making his own. Thank you for sharing!!
