I was inspired to make these by the little instant bibs and clips that they use at the dentist's office and by all of the wonderful pacifier clip tutorials that I have seen lately.
WARNING: It is important to make these no longer than 6 inches. Also do not leave this on a baby or toddler unattended. Always clip loosely near the edges.
Tutorial
The first one I made by hand stitching. It would go much more quickly by using a sewing machine. You will need a fashion fit clip or suspenders clips (available at the craft store), ribbon, fray check, and a needle and thread.
1. Cut the elastic off of the fashion clips. Cut a 12 inch piece of ribbon (use fray check) and slip on the clips to both sides.
2. Fold the ribbon over and pin it into place.
3. Sew a rectangle around the inside of the ribbon. Stay as close to the edge of the ribbon as possible.
No Sew Version
1. Cut 2 pieces of ribbon. I used 2 different ribbons for this. One should be 8 inches and the other 5 1/2.
2. The longer ribbon will be the top piece. Lay it down upside down, and slip on the clips, also facing downward.
3. Place the shorter ribbon facing up centered between the clips. Fold over each side and using a hot glue gun, glue down the edge. I also added a small dot of glue in between the ribbons in the middle to keep them together.
Even Easier and Cheaper Version
You can also make an instant bib clip out of supplies you probably already have lying around the house. All you need is 2 alligator hair clips and a thin piece of ribbon. Simply tie 2 alligator clips to each end of a 6 inch piece of ribbon. This is not nearly as cute, but it works just as well.
Now you can turn anything into a bib: a washcloth, burp cloth, restaurant napkin, paper towel, baby wipe, etc...
{Once again, remember to never leave your baby or toddler unattended while wearing an instant bib}

Adorable Rachel!! Awesome idea! Great for Grandparent's houses too! Then you can make do wherever you go!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! And how convenient to be able to clip on & off very easily.
ReplyDeleteCute idea! We just had one of those "Uh-oh, forgot the bib" moments a few nights ago. This would have come in very handy!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. I use bib clips to secure a large paper napkin around the necks of my two boys who are both messy eaters. My oldest is 11 and the younger one is 9. This really saves time on laundry and no more ruined shirts. One spaghetti dinner is proof enough that wearing a napkin with a bib clip is a smart choice and an excellent idea for kids and adults who want to keep their clothes clean and stain free during meal times.
