The other day I stumbled upon this great tutorial (and free template) from Curbly for a very simple gift box, and I made these out of card stock.
Immediately, when I saw these with the way the little tabs stick up, they reminded me of little animals. So I decided to turn a couple of them into a dog and a cat.
I used the scraps of card stock leftover from the template to cut out little arms and tails for the dog and cat. I attached everything with a glue stick. I added little eyes, paper noses, and details with an ultra fine sharpie. You could have fun and decorate these boxes as almost any animal. They are such a fun way to give a small gift, gift card, or party favor to kids, or grown-up animal lovers like me.
How to make the ears and tongue:
When cutting out the template for the cat and dog boxes, I drew new lines over the tabs (make them longer, NOT wider), in the shape of dog and cat ears. I used red washi tape for the insides of the ears and for the dog's tongue. These gift boxes are also reusable.
