Lets Make a Mess

Blue and White Breezy Bedroom Inspiration

June 10, 2012 by Rachel 7 Comments

We are working on moving back to our townhouse after 16 months of living with and taking care of my Grandmother. When we first moved over here, we were told it would only be for a month or two, so we didn’t rent out our place, or move most of our things over.

(Here is the room mid-move. The bed has been moved, the tool box is out, the new duvet is on, and piles of clothes and papers are mid-organization.)

Now that we’re moving back, I’m excited to give the place a little makeover. Above is a before picture of our master bedroom (with the new duvet). I painted the walls this brown color about 4 years ago, and I have always loved it. All you can see out the front window are green leaves (year-round since we live in Florida), and the room has an earthy and comfortable atmosphere. But now I really want to change it and make it lighter. I want to paint it and decorate with blues and whites.

I saw this comforter online at West Elm on clearance, and almost bought it. The only reason I didn’t is because it couldn’t be returned, and I wanted to see what it looked like in person. But then the other day, I noticed there was a West Elm right next to Ikea. The duvet looked even better in person (plus it was even cheaper than online!).

I went ahead and painted the room a very pale blue. In fact, while the paint was still wet it looked white, but as it dried it turned a little blue. It is really beautiful. I want the room to feel open, calming (with blues and whites), and slightly beachy.

Here is some of my inspiration for the room.

That is a great color scheme!! I feel like doing up my bathroom in those hues – it'll feel like waking up to the sound of waves! Heaven!!

I live on Santorini and the sky blue and white is what is mostly used here.
