Lets Make a Mess

Felt Owl Nursery Wall Hanging

July 27, 2011 by Rachel 8 Comments

Since I LOVE owls, I wanted to make an owl wall hanging to put in Lyla’s nursery. I decided to use felt.
First I sketched out a picture of generally what I wanted the owl to look like. Then cut I it out, traced it onto a piece of felt (purple) and cut it out. Then I cut out pieces for the belly, beak, feet, feathers, and eyes.

I considered using buttons for the eyes, which would be very cute, but in the end I decided to stick with just felt.

I then sewed on the pieces of felt. I used one color of thick thread for the entire owl.

I laid out all of the pieces before I sewed them on to decide where I wanted them all. I couldn’t make up my mind how to do the eyes.

Tada! This was a pretty quick project and I love how it looks in Lyla’s room. I added thread between the two ears to use to hang it. It looks good as it is but I am considering gluing a piece of cardboard to the back to give it a little extra support.

I love how it turned out, but now that I am looking back, I think I like the sideways eyes better than the looking down eyes. Maybe I will go back and change them.
