Sparkly Monogram Ornament – Just a Girl and Her Blog

December 2, 2013 by Rachel 2 Comments

Today kicks off the start of the Handmade Ornament series here at Lines Across. I’m so excited to see all of the fun and creative tutorials that are lined up from 20 awesome bloggers. Welcome Abby!

Handmade Ornament #1

Hello, Lines Across readers! I’m Abby from Just a Girl and Her Blog, and I am so thrilled that the sweet and

always-creative Miss Rachel asked me to share one of my favorite handmade ornaments

with you today! If you’re ever been to my blog, you’ll know that I’m slightly obsessed with

two things: monograms and bling! So what could be better than combining the two to

create a beautiful holiday ornament?! {If you answered, “Nothing!” you are correct! ;)}

This ornament is super simple and only requires a few supplies:

  • Clear Christmas ornament
  • Fine glitter glass paint in red
  • Jewels
  • Hot glue gun

I first got out my sparkly glass paint to add some Christmas-y color to my ornament. I

simply squeezed some paint into the bottom of the ornament and rolled it and shook it

until it covered the whole thing.

While my ornament was drying, I got out my jewels and started working out my design.

After trying a couple different “fonts” for my letter “L”, I decided on one I liked.

I used my hot glue gun to adhere each jewel to my ornament {and almost lost a few fingers

in the process! ;)}. I ended up with this:

There are truly so many ways you could change up this ornament to make it your own-

– different colors of paint, different ribbons, different designs for the monogram, or a

different configuration of jewels altogether. I tried a green one with a “snowflake” look

while I had my supplies out, and I loved how it turned out, too!

I hope this gives you a little inspiration for your own DIY ornaments. It really is such a fun

way to add a personal touch to your Christmas decor. If you’re looking for more Christmas

ideas, I’d love to have you over to Just a Girl and

Her Blog to check out the rest of my Christmas-y posts! You can also join the fun on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram</

a>, or Google+! Thanks again to Rachel for

having me, and thank YOU for reading. I hope you have a wonderful holiday season!

Great post! You motivated me to decorate 4 ornaments I bought at Target a few years ago with some stick on jewels that I had sitting around.
