Baseball Embroidery Hoop

October 10, 2011 by Rachel 12 Comments

We have been watching a lot of baseball around the house lately. Benjamin’s favorite phrase these days is, “Go Rangers!”

This little baseball embroidery hoop is a great DIY craft for a little boy’s room or nursery. It is also a great beginning embroidery project.

What I used:
3 inch wooden embroidery hoop
White embroidery fabric (any white fabric would work)
Red thread
Fabric Pencil

First, I looked at this picture of an actual baseball to get an idea of what the stitching really looks like. I never realized that the arrows on each side go in opposite directions.

Next, I lightly sketched where the outline of the red stitching onto the white fabric, already in the hoop. I started stitching. I like the childlike hand-stitched look, so I was not too careful about making each stitch the exact same size.

I wanted the stitching to wrap inside of the hoop, so I took the fabric out, stitched past the edges, and then put it back into the frame. You could also paint the wooden hoop, but I like the natural wood look. Erase the visible pencil marks.

{Why are baseballs and teddy bears so cute together?}

    Love this idea. So simple but so cute, especially for a little boys' room. I may be trying this one for my boy bedroom (except we're Phillies fans here ;))Rachel

    Saw this on Pinterest then again at Tatertots and Jello. Such a cute idea. I have a cousin that is nuts about baseball, and I think he would enjoy having something like this in his room. It looks simple enough that I could whip it up easily. Thanks for sharing this great idea!
