#4 – My Life and Kids {The 13 Crafts of Christmas}

November 10, 2011 by Rachel 3 Comments

Hi, my name is Anna, and I blog at My Life and Kids. I’m thrilled to be visiting Rachel at Lines Across My Face today!

I had three kids in three years and whew has my life changed! Just a few years ago I had a job I loved, a house in the city and a social life. Now I stay home with my three kids, I live in the suburbs, I wear mom jeans AND – I drive a minivan! In my spare time, I blog about it all at My Life and Kids.

Today, I’m going to share one of my favorite holiday projects with you.

Paint Can Hostess Gifts

If you’re like me, you never know what to bring as a hostess gift to all those holiday parties. Well, now you do!

Brand new paint cans sell from $2 – $4 at paint stores. Stock up for the holidays, and you’ll never be without a gift!

The cans can be used throughout the year as fun and practical storage. And you can customize the theme for what you put into each can based on who you’re giving it to.

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • New paint can
  • Two sheets of matching scrapbook paper (per paint can)
  • Scotch tape or Mod Podge – your choice
  • Yarn – to wrap the paint can handle
  • Whatever you want to fill your paint can with.

First – use two sheets of matching scrapbook paper to wrap the outside of your paint can. You can use Mod Podge or I’ve found that scotch tape does the trick too!

Then wrap the handle with yarn and attach it to the paint can.

Click here for a step-by-step tutorial on how to cover your paint can.

Next – start filling your can! This is a great time to be creative with your themes. Here are two of my favorites:

Family Survival Kit

This is the perfect hostess gift for any mom (or dad)!

I cut a few Christmas trees out of scrapbook paper, tossed in some fun stickers and crayons – and a bottle of wine. The parents can relax and enjoy their evening while the kids decorate the trees!

Sugar Cookie Kit

Rather than fill the can with cookies that I’ve made – I’ve included everything this family will need to have a fun time making their own cookies. Sugar cookie mix, pre-made frosting, a fun jar of sprinkles and a cookie cutter. When I saw this Sugar Cookie Gift at Positively Splendid, I knew I was going to use it this holiday season!

Thanks so much for having me, Rachel! Happy Holidays!
