Resemblance – Who do they look like?

July 24, 2011 by Rachel 4 Comments

I love looking at pictures of families and trying to see the resemblances. I especially love doing this with my own kids.

When the doctor handed Lyla to me for the first time, the first thing I said was, “Oh my goodness she looks just like me.” I don’t know why this surprised me… probably because Benjamin didn’t look a thing like me when he was born.

When Benjamin was born, everyone thought he looked just like Grant… he even had his nose (I still claim he has my exact ears).

Now that I have kids I am definitely a lot more interested in looking at my own baby pictures. We even printed and framed a picture of both Grant and me as babies to put in Benjamin’s nursery.

However, as Benjamin and Lyla are both getting older, we are noticing that they are looking more and more like the opposite parent. If you can get past the shiny blonde hair, blue eyes, and fact that he is a boy, Benjamin looks JUST like I did at his age. And you might not recognize rough hairy Grant in Lyla’s beautiful delicate face at first, but there is a very strong resemblance there. (Both of them got Grant’s gorgeous blue eyes).

I love this picture. It’s not the most attractive shot of either of them but it is so adorable the way they are making the exact same expression.

I think that at this age, Benjamin and I have the same nose, mouth, ears, and face shape. What’s weird is how Benjamin and Lyla both look so much like both Grant and me, and yet they don’t look ANYTHING like each other.

Here are a few pictures of me as a toddler that I came across while I was visiting my parents.

Who do you think Benjamin and Lyla look more like?

I agree with you that Lyla looks like Grant and Benjamin looks like you. I've noticed my kids' looks have changed tons too since they were born. My oldest has red hair just like me but he looks exactly like my husband, and my 2nd child has brown hair like my husband but is identical to me. It's so funny.

This is such a cool thing to look at as they grow up and they change. I'm SO excited to see my baby and decide who he looks like!
