The Rainy Day Brown Paper Bag

I really love raindrops and clouds. (Remember this roundup called I ♥ Raindrops?) It’s not just the shapes that I love, but I love gorgeous clouds in the sky as much as I enjoy watching the rain. Maybe it’s because I live in Florida, where we get some crazy and beautiful rain.

What you need:
1. Brown paper lunch bags
2. Card stock (white, and shades of blue)
3. Glue and scissors
4. Silver paint pen (or a white crayon or pencil…)

What you do:


1. Cut out a cloud shape from a piece of white card stock. Trace the shape first with pencil on the back side, or print a template.

2. Cut out a lot of raindrop shapes from different colors of blue card stock. I already had a lot of scraps of this from when I made some of these gift boxes. You could also use white card stock, and let your kids color it blue with markers or crayons for a cute childlike look.

3. Fold over the top 1 – 2 inches of the bag. Now draw silver lines along the front of the bag. Glue the raindrops along the lines. I put a heavy book on top of them for a couple of minutes to make sure they dried flat and securely.

4. Fill the bag. Then tape down the front fold, and add the cloud to the top with double sided tape or a little roll of tape.

This brown paper sac project takes about 5 minutes to make. It’s quick and easy, and you probably already have everything you need to make one. You could send a rainy day bag with your kid to school for lunch, or make a lot as party favors at a birthday party or baby shower.

 Another fun idea, is to make rainy day activity bags for your kids. When I see clouds and rain, I think of possibilities, new beginnings, and a clean fresh start. When my kids, on the other hand, see clouds and rain, they think “Oh no, we’re stuck in the house again.” Fill the bags with a few crafts or activities for your kids to do on a rainy day. You could even make a few at once, and fill them all with different items. Then when a rainy day rolls around, your kids will be excited to get to open a new rainy day bag. I made a few for my kids. In each bag, I put an activity, a special snack, a little toy car, a few glow sticks, stickers, crayons, and paper.
